Cold Weather Fail = Day Off From Work

January 30th, 2008 | Posted in General | 2 Comments »

Seems that no matter what I do to avoid trouble, trouble will go through all kinds of trouble to make sure that it causes trouble that I cannot avoid.

Today I woke up 30 minutes early to avoid being late to work due to the icy weather.  What I found when I went out to my truck was a bit troubling.  It seems that the lock on my truck had frozen totally shut.  A cigarette lighter to warm my truck key only managed to help me bend the key inside the lock.  Fearing that I might break something if I tried too hard, I took things nice and slow.  What started out as 30 extra minutes to show up for work rapidly turned into a great chance of being late.

I called in to work to take vacation time to avoid being late because being late would mean a potential write-up (or much worse).  It is now almost an hour and a half after the time that I was supposed to be at work and only now have I managed to get my truck door opened.

The lesson?  Don’t lock the door when the weather gets this bad.  I do have the day off, though, so it isn’t a total loss.  I never intended to burn this much vacation in the first month of the year… but… whatever.  I’ve burned 4.5 days so far.

I’m left wondering whose idea it was to design a truck that only has a lock on the driver’s side. FNORD
