2oo7 saw the release of several really good Wii games. Obviously Metroid Prime 3 and Super Paper Mario come to mind, and who could forget Super Mario Galaxy? The thing is, for some odd reason the Wii found itself more of an emulation station than an actual modern game console. Most of the use I gave my Wii in 2007 was from the virtual console. 2007 gave us so many games on the Virtual Console that I was almost able to buy enough to fill up the little slots on the control screen without even running out of memory.
I’m really not complaining about it. In fact, I love the classics. I just find it slightly amusing that the current market leader in the game console industry is a system who, at least for me, is mostly a platform for playing old games.
You see, for years I have been emulating classic games on my PC. I’m even building an Arcab (Arcade Cabinet). I love the old games. Rarely is it ever the case that a new game comes out that really leaves a lasting impression on me. This newest generation of gaming on the XBox 360 and PS3 really hasn’t dont all that much for me. I personally consider Geometry Wars the single best reason to own an XBox 360. Then again, I DID break 1 million. I don’t personally know anyone else who can say that.
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t HATE the current generation. It’s just that I guess I have gone beyond graphics and sheer technical achievement when it comes to finding appreciation for a video game. For 2007 the Wii was the clear winner. I only wonder how much longer the Wii can maintain that momentum.
2008 should be an interesting year.
So, uhm, yeah. This shit was puked up in 6 minutes but it was posted before midnight, bitches.
